Giveaway #3 Winner Profile: David “Andy” Gardner and the 2022 Ram Power Wagon

David “Andy” Gardner’s purchase of a T-shirt and keychain turned into a life-changing phone call from 717 Supply Founder Mike Hyssong. The prize package included a custom-wrapped 2022 Ram Power Wagon, a matching camper trailer, $10,000 cash, and additional gear. “Does that sound interesting?” Hyssong asked after listing everything. “That sounds amazing,” Gardner replied, still in disbelief.

The timing couldn’t have been better for Gardner, who truly appreciated what he’d won. The Ohio resident works at an auto salvage yard that handles high-end cars like Vipers and Lamborghinis. His mechanical background gave him a real appreciation for the Power Wagon. “I’ve got a kind of worn-out 1500 Chevy,” he told Hyssong during the call, making the upgrade all the more meaningful.

The 2022 Ram Power Wagon takes a different path to off-road performance than high-speed desert trucks like the Ram TRX or Ford Raptor. Motor1 noted in a 2022 review that the Power Wagon is “built not for outright speed but for slow-going, easy-does-it rock crawling, thanks to big articulation and robust solid axles front and rear.” This heavy-duty platform offers 14.2 inches of ground clearance and serious trail-ready hardware, including locking front and rear differentials, a disconnecting front sway bar, and a factory-installed winch.

Hyssong clearly took pride in the build. “If a Ram TRX and a regular Ram 2500 had a baby, it would be this,” he said during the overview. The 6.4-liter Hemi V8 under the hood delivers 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque, plenty for tackling rugged terrain without relying on forced induction.

Gardner’s prize stood out thanks to its extensive customization. 717 Supply worked with Regal Metalworks to create a one-off cargo rack system that boosted the truck’s utility for overlanding. The rack featured jerry can mounts, spare tire storage, and multiple points to secure camping gear. “I dropped the truck off and showed him a picture of like the most badass Overland rig ever, and was like this is what I want,” Hyssong said of the collaboration.

Every detail of the custom rack showed Regal’s craftsmanship, from the powder-coated finish to its rugged fit and function, far beyond what you’d get from typical aftermarket parts.

The prize package didn’t stop with the truck. A Coleman camper, a rooftop tent, and plenty of outdoor gear rounded out a complete, ready-to-go adventure setup designed for the wild. The coordinated wrap tied the truck and the camper together while also protecting the paint underneath.

Gardner’s Ohio home also made things easier for Hyssong. “I was actually terrified. If someone in California wins, I don’t know how I’m going to ship the truck and the trailer,” Hyssong admitted. A five-hour drive to Pennsylvania allowed Gardner to bring a friend along to see it all in person. For Gardner, the Power Wagon opened the door to adventures and off-road experiences his old Chevy simply couldn’t handle, no matter how hard he tried.
