Giveaway #11 Winner Profile: Edwin Rodriguez and the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500 HD AT4X AEV

Edwin Rodriguez of Illinois won one of the most specialized trucks in 717 Supply’s giveaway history, a 2024 GMC Sierra 2500 HD AT4X AEV. While many previous winners received heavily modified vehicles, Rodríguez’s prize left the factory with amenities that would otherwise cost thousands as aftermarket modifications. All 717 Supply had to do to complete this pickup’s dominating presence was tint the windows and upgrade the wheels and tires.

The six-figure AT4X AEV is GMC's answer to truck enthusiasts wanting serious off-road capability without the hassles of custom builds. As 717 Supply Founder Mike Hyssong explained during the vehicle’s reveal, the AT4X designation goes beyond the standard AT4 trim, providing “the ultimate off-road package” with specialized suspension components and enhanced capability.

What also sets this truck apart is the AEV collaboration. American Expedition Vehicles redesigned the front and rear bumpers specifically to accommodate larger tires without modifications. "You can finally fit 37s on a stock GM," Hyssong emphasized, highlighting a longstanding frustration. This modification only required minor torsion bar adjustments to ensure proper fitment and zero tire rubbing.

The roster of standard factory equipment is a wishlist for off-road adventurers. Multimatic DSSV dampers handle suspension duties in all four corners. Meanwhile, the truck has a 2-inch factory lift, front and rear locking differentials, and specialized skid plates for protection. AEV's hot-stamped steel bumpers provide recovery points and winch capability, while the redesigned approach and departure angles ensure few obstructions during off-pavement excursions.

While the mighty 6.2-liter V8 is an option with the Sierra 2500 HD AT4X AEV, Rodriguez’s GMC has the standard 3.0-liter Duramax turbo-diesel, which produces 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque. A ten-speed automatic and two-speed transfer case are also part of the package. The truck has a gross vehicle weight rating of 7,100 pounds.

With a nod to the Sierra 2500 HD AT4X AEV’s already robust feature set, 717 Supply’s modifications were minimal. These upgrades mainly consisted of adding a deep tint to the windows and swapping the factory wheels and tires with Method off-road rims wrapped in 37-inch rubber. 717 Supply made a point of preserving the AT4X's capability by ensuring the Method wheels had the proper offset for the larger tires.

There’s no getting around the Sierra 2500 HD AT4X AEV’s substantial price tag of $112,000. However, this significant amount underscores how this truck goes above and beyond the other Sierra 2500 HD trims. Hyssong noted buyers are paying for factory integration and warranty coverage on components that would typically void coverage if installed later. At the same time, the truck retains full towing capability despite its off-road focus, maintaining the 2500 HD's work truck credentials.

For Rodriguez, the AT4X AEV provided immediate access to off-road capability that would have required significant investment and modification time with any other truck.

Giveaway #11 with the AT4X AEV was well-timed, as 717 Supply’s followers are becoming more interested in off-road-focused trucks. The appeal is obvious: these vehicles have an over-the-top street presence, abundant horsepower, rugged capability, and are still well-suited for daily driving duties. Similar 717 Supply giveaways have offered the RAM TRX and the Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD ZR2 Bison.
